About Our Clinical & Creative Director

A proud alumna of the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts (the FAME School), Gerina majored in theater, training in acting, dance, dialects, and both classical and contemporary performance. She performed with companies including Applause, where she shared the stage with Sebastian Stan, and Urban Youth Theater at Henry Street Settlement’s Abrons Arts Center. She also wrote and co directed original productions for her church’s theater ministry, discovering early the power of storytelling to inspire healing and transformation.

She continued her artistic journey at Clark Atlanta University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Media Arts with a concentration in Television and Film Production. Her senior thesis film, which she wrote, directed, and edited, reflected her passion for layered storytelling and earned recognition from faculty. While in Atlanta, she continued her theater training through coursework at both Clark Atlanta University and Spelman College.

Following graduation, Gerina worked in the entertainment industry, gaining experience with casting and production companies while contributing to projects for BET, MTV, VH1, and Bravo’s The Fashion Show. Although creatively fulfilling, those experiences ultimately revealed a deeper calling to accompany people through healing, identity formation, and personal transformation.

She returned to school and earned two master’s degrees from Abilene Christian University, a Master of Marriage and Family Therapy and a Master of Arts in Christian Ministry. Her clinical work began in Texas, where she facilitated therapeutic groups for students who had been labeled as behavioral or socially isolated. She later completed her clinical internship at the Marriage and Family Therapy Institute, providing therapy to individuals, couples, and families navigating trauma, relationship challenges, and life transitions.

Her commitment to holistic service also led her to Peru, where she participated in a Christian mission initiative centered on sustainable community engagement. Upon returning to New York, she served in numerous leadership roles including Clinical Case Manager, Consultant, Program Manager, and Youth and Community Clinician. Her work has primarily focused on supporting youth, families, and communities impacted by trauma, systemic inequities, and involvement with the juvenile justice system.

Trained under trauma expert Dr. Christopher Branson, Gerina became a Trauma Champion within her agency, helping implement trauma informed practices, facilitating staff trainings, mentoring graduate level social work interns, and developing programs from the ground up. Throughout her career she has designed youth initiatives, mediated school conflicts, facilitated restorative conversations, and partnered with families navigating complex systems of care.

Beyond clinical work, Gerina has facilitated workshops, retreats, panels, and leadership trainings for schools, nonprofit organizations, churches, conferences, and community organizations. Her work has included topics such as emotional wellness, healthy relationships, identity development, trauma informed care, creative expression, faith integration, leadership, and resilience. She has presented in settings ranging from intimate community spaces to Carnegie Hall, always centering dignity, curiosity, and meaningful dialogue.

In 2017, Gerina returned to her artistic roots by creating Wounded. Not Broken., a healing centered performance experience that blended theater, spoken word, music, and facilitated reflection. The production later inspired Real Talk, a monthly open mic centered on storytelling and authentic conversation. In 2024, she relaunched the vision as The Healing Arts Experience, an interdisciplinary platform that brings together artists, clinicians, and community members to explore identity, grief, belonging, hope, and healing through creative expression.

Today, Gerina serves as the Founder and Clinical Director of Healing Minds and Hearts, a therapy practice and creative wellness organization dedicated to fostering emotional health, relational healing, and whole person well being. Through psychotherapy, workshops, consulting, speaking engagements, creative programming, and community initiatives, she works with individuals, couples, organizations, and communities seeking deeper healing and intentional growth. Her work particularly centers Black and Brown professionals, creatives, entrepreneurs, and those navigating the intersections of faith, identity, purpose, and emotional wellness.

Gerina is also one of the co founders of VITAL, an ecumenical Christian community created to cultivate authentic relationships, spiritual formation, and emotional maturity among single adults. Originally launched as the Tri State Abstinence Crew, the community evolved into a space emphasizing whole person formation through prayer, meaningful conversation, service, and emotionally healthy discipleship. She helped shape its organizational framework, programming, and long term vision.

She also served in Singular Focus, the singles ministry of Kings Church of Christ, where she facilitated discussions, coordinated service opportunities, and helped create spaces that encouraged spiritual growth, authentic connection, and community care.

Whether serving in the therapy room, facilitating workshops, directing creative experiences, or speaking before audiences, Gerina believes healing happens when people are given permission to tell the truth about their stories while discovering hope, purpose, and connection. Her work reflects a deep commitment to integrating psychology, creativity, and faith in ways that invite people to become more fully themselves.

Outside of her professional work, Gerina enjoys reading, cooking, traveling, attending Broadway productions, journaling, engaging in thoughtful theological discussions, participating in Bible studies, and spending meaningful time with family and friends.

At the heart of everything she does is a simple mission: to create spaces where people feel seen, heard, valued, and empowered to heal, grow, and flourish.
